Junior Tap

Ages: 8 – 11 Years

Our Junior and Intermediate Tap classes are structured in an enjoyable progressive technical format, continuing the building blocks of our foundation’s tap, advancing in tap dancing skills to create additional sounds and rhythms. Combinations and exercises become more challenging, experimenting with rhythm, precision of footwork and creative styling.

Our Junior and Intermediate Tap classes incorporate BBO Tap syllabus exercises and amalgamations to equip students to perform at a standard that helps adapt varying styles and choreography throughout the levels.

Tap is an enjoyable genre steeped in history. Tap requires a dancer to use their feet to strike the floor, beating out various rhythms.Special Tap shoes are worn with metal plates on the toe and heel to give a distinctive sound, creating interesting tone and quality.

As a genre, it’s an enjoyable, inspiring education in timing, rhythm, and technique, which encourages individuality in style as well as discipline in group work. Throughout the levels, students learn foundation steps and exercises such as shuffles, beats, rolls, wings, breaks and time steps – all to demonstrate their musical prowess.
